All parents play a major role in the growth and development of their child. Children may need help with various challenges and no matter how well they get along with their parents, they may find it difficult to talk to them. Children often get help and support by talking to a trustworthy person; this could be a friend, teacher, relative or even a neighbour.

In school every so often having a problem or concern can affect a child’s behaviour or school work and the School Counsellor may be able to support the child address the difficulty encountered.

*child refers to any person of statutory school age

  • Two homeroom teachers, one Japanese and one international
  • Six Grade Leaders who lead the grade
  • The Pedagogical Leadership Team consisting of PYP Coordinator, Head of English, Head of Administration, Head of Career Guidance, 
  • As the responsible members, the Senior Leadership Team made up of Head of School,  Principal, Business Manager 

We will all work together to support children and their families.

In addition, the Student Support Team, made up of counselors, developmental psychologists, school nurses and other experts, provides support for the physical and mental well-being of the children.

Counseling is a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families and groups to accomplish mental health, wellness, education and career goals.


In a school setting, school counselors are vital members of the education team helping students in the areas of academic achievement, career, social and emotional development to ensure that today’s students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow.


A school counsellor is a trained professional with unique qualifications and skills to address student challenges. The counsellor is independent from school staff however, works closely and collaboratively with school personnel in promoting students well-being.


Counseling being a voluntary service means that a student can walk into the counseling office either to consult with the counselor or request for counseling session.
On the other hand a subject teacher, home room teacher or even students parent may recommend it. As a trained professional, counseling process aims to empower an individual by equipping them with healthy coping skills both at school and outside school. while maintaining confidentiality.


One of the ethical obligations involves informing students of the purpose,goals and rules of procedure under which they may receive counselling. Disclosure includes informed agreement and clarification of the limits of confidentiality although this can be difficult to obtain from students of certain developmental levels and special needs populations.

All information gathered from the student and interactions during counseling sessions as well as records shall be confidential unless under unique circumstances that warrant breach of confidentiality namely, If there is evidence of clear and imminent danger The student is threatening to harm self or other person The student reports an incident of abuse or neglect When the student gives permission to disclose.


The first session between the school counsellor and student help to determine the number of sessions that the student shall attend based on the areas of difficulty identified. The length of the session varies however, on average a session takes between 45 minutes to an hour.

In the course of the counseling process, parents or caregivers may be asked to meet with the counsellor to give consent or for further deliberation and management of the difficulty and thereafter to discuss progress of the student since the process started or when need arises.


Counselling is a normal and useful activity geared towards providing emotional,academic, social and psychological support to your child. The process takes time and parents are encouraged to be patient as it takes time to realise significant impact which does not happen overnight.

Show interest to your child when they want to talk and don’t push the child when they do not want to talk however, give it time and create a conducive environment for conversation; not necessarily about the matter at hand.

As stated at the beginning, parents play a crucial role in the growth and development of a child and with support from home and school, a student is projected to do well as all parties involved work together with the student to achieve the best possible outcome.

The school counselor shall invite parents for post counseling session inorder to update them on progress and also get feedback from them.
